Skadden’s Antitrust and European Union/International Competition practice groups hosted an interactive seminar titled "The State of European Competition Law and Enforcement in a Transatlantic Context" at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Brussels on March 17. Topics included the submission and use of economic evidence, recent developments in merger control, private actions, procedural reform and transatlantic cooperation and cartel enforcement actions. Brussels partners Frederic Depoortere, Ingrid Vandenborre and Jim Venit moderated. Main speakers included Philip Lowe, Damien Neven, Carles Esteva Mosso and Olivier Guersent of the European Commission and Rachel Brandenburger, special advisor to Christine Varney of the US Department of Justice. Panelists included highly regarded economists Robert Willig, Janusz Ordover and Paul Seabright as well as New York partners Clifford Aronson and Shepard Goldfein, and Washington, D.C. partners Steven Sunshine and C. Benjamin Crisman, Jr. Closing remarks were given by Barry Hawk, director of Fordham Competition Law Institute and retired Skadden partner.
