Thomas Solomon

Thomas Solomon grew up in a contemporary art milieu and began his career as an assistant to artists Gordon Matta-Clark, Judy Pfaff, Alexis Smith, and others in the 1970's in New York City. He served as director and chief curator for the leading alternative art space, White Columns in New York (1982-1985) and was president and owner of Thomas Solomon's Garage in Los Angeles (1987-1996). He has curated numerous exhibitions internationally and nationally which have included Subway Series at the Queens Museum of Art, New York and The Bronx Museum of the Arts, New York (2004); Beyond Boundaries at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, Pasadena, California (2002); and, Andy Warhol's Empire at Solo Projects, Los Angeles (2001). Solomon was the director and curator of the Museums' Donations Program for Eileen and Peter Norton (1998-2000). He also served as the advisor to the visual film elements on PopMart, a musical tour of the rock band U2. In addition, Solomon has lectured at California Institute for the Arts, Valencia, California, The Art Institute of Chicago and Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut.
