2013 British Legal Awards
Skadden earned top honors for the "Best Use of Technology" at the British Legal Awards on Nov. 28, 2013. The award recognized Skadden's instrumental role in developing the Magnum Cloud software system, which was used in the firm's landmark 2012 victory on behalf of Roman Abramovich in his $6 billion dispute with the late Boris Berezovsky.
Financial Times 2013 'US Innovative Lawyers' Report
Skadden again ranked as the No. 1 firm in the country for innovation in the legal sector in the Financial Times’ annual “US Innovative Lawyers” report, published Nov. 21, 2013. We are the first firm to receive this honor twice and have ranked as one of the top two firms all four years the report has been published The FT gave Skadden 11 ranked submissions — the most by any firm in the history of the report — including at least one ranked item in each of the report's five firm-related categories: corporate, finance, litigation, "lawyers to the innovators" and "business of law."
BTI 'Client Service A-Team 2014' Report
Skadden is the top-ranked firm in BTI Consulting's "Client Service A-Team 2014" report, published on Nov. 19, 2013. The report discusses the law firms that, according to BTI, corporate counsel say deliver the best client service. BTI interviewed nearly 300 chief legal officers at large and Fortune 1000 companies between March and July 2013. Skadden was named one of the "best of the best" — BTI's top tier — in 13 of the 17 client-service rankings that comprise the report.
Skadden Tops New Tax Rankings
Skadden is ranked as a leading law firm for tax advice according to two guides published by International Tax Review:
- The 2014 edition of World Tax, which rates the capabilities of law firms and other tax consultancies, gave Skadden more top-tier U.S. rankings than any other legal adviser.
- Skadden also is ranked as a top-tier law firm in the inaugural edition of World Transfer Pricing, which interviewed corporate tax directors and their advisers in more than 50 jurisdictions globally for their insights into the firms with top experience in this profit allocation method.
2014 U.S. News – Best Lawyers 'Law Firm of the Year' Awards
Skadden was named the U.S. News – Best Lawyers “Law Firm of the Year” in the Commercial Litigation and Capital Markets categories as part of the publication's 2014 “Best Law Firms” survey, published on Nov. 1, 2013. The firm also received 154 first-tier practice rankings, 40 of which are national. The annual survey is based on individual practice performance, client feedback and peer review.
2013 African Legal Awards
Skadden was named the "Litigation & Dispute Resolution Team of the Year" at the inaugural African Legal Awards on October 24 for our representation of South Sudan in the recovery of oil proceeds misappropriated by the Republic of Sudan. The awards were presented by Legal Week magazine and the Corporate Lawyers Association of South Africa.
JUVE 2013 'Law Firm of the Year: Frankfurt'
Skadden was named the "Law Firm of the Year: Frankfurt" by JUVE, Germany's leading publisher of legal news and information, on October 23. The award recognizes the firm’s growing reputation in Germany's top commercial and legal center. Skadden was one of only two U.S. firms to receive an award. We also were one of five firms on the publication's shortlist for "Law Firm of the Year: Banking and Corporate Finance."
Financial Times 2013 'Innovative Lawyers' Report (Europe)
Skadden received the top score for “legal expertise” — the category that measures a firm's ability to provide innovative service — in the Financial Times’ 2013 “Innovative Lawyers” report for Europe-based attorneys (Oct. 4). We also were the highest-ranking U.S. firm overall. Skadden was commended in particular for innovative work in the corporate, finance, dispute resolution and client services categories.
The American Lawyer 2013 Global Legal Awards
At its inaugural Global Legal Awards (September 23), The American Lawyer recognized the $21.6 billion Sprint/SoftBank merger as the "Global M&A Deal of the Year: Grand Prize" and Skadden as lead counsel to Sprint Nextel Corporation. In July, Am Law had selected the transaction — the largest U.S. M&A deal announced in 2012 — as "Global M&A Deal of the Year: U.S." Skadden also was recognized by Am Law for its leading role in two additional matters:
- The "Global Dispute of the Year, U.K. Litigation" award for our work in securing a landmark victory for Roman Abramovich in his $6 billion dispute with Boris Berezovsky over alleged interests in the oil company Sibneft and the metals company Rusal. This was the largest case ever in the English Commercial Court and the largest private dispute in the world.
- The "Global M&A Deal of the Year, Russia" award for our role in representing Alfa-Access-Renova (AAR) in the $56 billion sale of TNK-BP, a joint venture between AAR and BP plc, to Rosneft Oil Company. This was the largest M&A transaction in the world in 2012.
2013 International Tax Review Americas Awards
In recognition of innovative client work, Skadden received two awards at the annual International Tax Review Americas Awards on September 26. The firm was named "Los Angeles – Tax Firm of the Year" and also received the "Technology & Communications Tax Deal of the Year" award for its work in advising Sprint Nextel Corporation.
