Skadden provides clients a unique combination of substantive legal skills, attention to reputational and business concerns, and an ability to recognize and seamlessly address potential implications of related civil or government enforcement actions. Prior to joining Skadden, many of our attorneys served at the highest levels of the federal government, including at the White House, on Capitol Hill, in the Justice Department, and at federal agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of the Treasury, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the State Department, the Food and Drug Administration and numerous other departments and agencies that influence businesses in the global marketplace.
Our group has represented numerous companies, executives and public officials in high-profile congressional investigations, including preparing witnesses to testify before congressional committees, responding to document and information requests, and counseling clients in connection with written reports issued by congressional investigators. These include inquiries conducted by the House Energy and Commerce Committee; House Financial Services Committee; House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform; Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations; Senate Special Committee on Aging; Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee; Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; Senate Finance Committee; and Senate Banking Committee.
Our attorneys have an intimate knowledge of congressional processes, as well as experience working with congressional staff to potentially narrow the scope of a government probe. We have extensive experience in parallel government enforcement examinations and grand jury and civil proceedings. In cases where a congressional inquiry may spark other scrutiny, our team has a deep background in handling a broad range of government, internal and white collar investigations; enforcement actions; and litigation.
Global Public Policy
We assist clients worldwide in navigating governmental, regulatory and foreign policy issues. Our attorneys offer a wealth of experience and perspective to solve sensitive, high-priority issues arising out of political and regulatory landscapes worldwide and to manage their impact on the global marketplace.
From helping clients understand how governments work and how to minimize risks, to responding to federal inquiries, our attorneys advise in areas that affect vital business decisions. We handle “bet-the-company” and other major legal crises, including developing targeted strategies for dealing with governmental investigations, shareholders, the investment community and the media. Our attorneys also help clients prevent these crises, working with them to establish effective ethics and compliance programs, and sound corporate governance policies and practices. We also guide them through complex and demanding compliance regimes, and we monitor legislative developments and are available to provide strategic insights on complex policy issues.
