The Opportunity
Skadden is looking for an Attorney Development Supervisor to join the Asia office. This position supervises Attorney Development and Training in the Asia region; works with Attorney Recruiting and Development team generally. Responsibilities include:
- Supervises performance management processes for Attorneys, International Project Managers and Trainee Solicitors.
- Supervises trainee solicitor program, performance management and training and development, including rotations, secondments and staffing.
- In conjunction with Manager, supervises compensation and bonus processes for Asia based attorneys.
- Works with team on matters related to attorney development, recruiting and training generally.
- Supervises training team to develop content for in-house training programs throughout Asia.
- Supervises and executes Mentor and RAMP (Rising Young Associates Mentor Program) programs in Asia.
- Supervises Asia based Specialist, working with NY and LA offices to monitor CLE, CPD and RME needs and compliance of attorneys in the region.
- Oversees Micron data reporting for training programs.
- Engages Associates Committees throughout Asia through meetings, encouraging open lines of communication and ensuring follow up with relevant departments.
- Works with team on summer associate and vacation placement program, including planning, execution and management of program.
- Supervises Law Society of Hong Kong compliance for Trainee Solicitors.
- Oversees/advises on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts to support attorney recruitment and development through coordination with the global DEI team.
- Advises attorneys on Firm policies and procedures as well as applicable legal requirements.
- Ensures compliance with global mobility including Firm policies, procedures and local regulatory requirements as it relates to incoming and transferring Asia attorneys, International Legal
- Project Managers, Trainee Solicitors and students.
- Ensures current knowledge of firm policies and practices for staff, current knowledge of industry trends, and continued professional development for staff.
- Participates in the interviewing, selection and training process.
- Recommends and implements changes and improvements in methods and procedures to higher level management.
- Coordinates and oversees department projects, day-to-day operations and long-range plans.
- Monitors time, attendance, overtime, and expense reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with firm policies.
- Recommends and participates in disciplinary procedures.
- Effectively utilizes the Firm's performance management process to communicate performance expectations, monitor performance, coach employees, and manage unsatisfactory performance.
- Oversees employees' work performance and provides guidance in the resolution of problems.
- Initiates disciplinary procedures in collaboration with the Human Resources Department.
- Recommends guidelines and practices to promote efficiency, effectiveness, excellent customer service and improved employee relations, in alignment with the Firm's Core Values.
- Develops and communicates departmental guidelines and procedures.
- Ensures accurate and timely responses to requests for departmental services.
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others.
- Manages Firm resources responsibly.
- Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Firm operation, policies and procedures
- Knowledge of HR policies and procedures, training and development
- Knowledge of business and legal forms and formats
- Current knowledge of industry best practices, trends and techniques
- Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
- Knowledge and implementation of the annual budget process
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrates close attention to detail
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills
- Ability to effectively supervise others
- Ability to administer Firm policies and procedures
- Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities
- Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to organize and prioritize work and delegate effectively
- Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment
- Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team

- Flexibility to travel
- Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs
Experience/Education
- Minimum of six years’ experience in a human resources and/or attorney development role
- Fluency in one or more Asian languages a plus
- Commitment to the Asia Pacific region
