Job Summary

Skadden is looking for a Human Resources Supervisor.  This position will advise, consult and lead in planning, developing and making recommendations in the areas of organizational development, recruitment, on-boarding, employee relations, training and development, performance management, benefit programs, leave of absence administration, employee engagement and compensation.  The Human Resources Supervisor plays a significant role in overseeing the complex life cycle of an employee. 

  • Independently leads employee relations coaching and counseling discussions.  Works closely with department heads and supervisors in reviewing employee relations activities and conducting employee counseling sessions.  Recommends appropriate course of action and disciplinary discussions. Participates in internal investigations.
  • Makes thoughtful and informed recommendations, implements changes/improvements to HR procedures and best practices to higher level management.
  • Maintains current knowledge of labor market trends and recommends competitive salaries for new hires, transfers, and promotions. Conducts market research and internal and external pay analysis.
  • Supervises and administers Skadden University course curriculum and projects, including identification of Professional Staff training needs, research and selection of training courses and training resources, and the creation of the annual training calendar.  Proactively seeks ways to enhance learning and development programs.
  • Independently leads full-cycle recruitment for exempt and non-exempt positions, student internships, and temporary/contract employees.  Collaborates with hiring managers to develop diverse recruitment strategies, utilizing various sources to market and advertise position vacancies; screens resumes, conducts interviews, and refers qualified applicants to the appropriate supervisor and/or manager.
  • Ensures recruitment efforts are in compliance with OFCCP regulations and are consistent with a government contractor status.
  • Participates in the employee departure process, conducting exit interviews, and maintaining and communicating results of exit interviews.  Creates analytics with exit data and analyzes results with Associate Director and CHRO.
  • Proactively utilizes HR systems and reporting vehicles to assess organizational data. Provides data analysis and metrics that give insight to workforce satisfaction, including recruitment, retention, engagement, and development.  Report results key stakeholders.
  • Participates in annual audits of job descriptions, internal processes and documentation; ensures accuracy of responsibilities, consistency and compliance with FLSA requirements.
  • Partners with the Leave Administration Supervisor on existing (FMLA, PFL), emerging or evolving leave laws and the overall impact on HR policies and procedures. 
  • Advises employees on the accommodation process in accordance with ADA standards.
  • Maintains employee profile information and attendance tracking using Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) database. Acts as subject matter expert in time-keeping/wage and hour process improvements and audits/reporting.  Works with department heads and supervisors to support time-keeping compliance.
  • Interfaces with Payroll, Benefits and other employees throughout the Firm in order to appropriately administer Firm policies.
  • Proposes changes to existing policy and procedures, as needed to ensure policies are appropriate, compliant and easily understood.
  • Budgets, proposes and launches employee and Firm special events and functions.
  • Maintains employee records and departmental files in accordance with departmental procedures and Human Resources and state and federal record keeping requirements.
  • Engages in strategic (i.e., long-range) planning by developing departmental goals and supporting objectives for department.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others.
  • Manages Firm resources responsibly.
  • Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


  • Working knowledge of an integrated HRIS system required; Workday preferred.
  • Experience with employee relations and talent management
  • Familiarity with applicable state and federal regulations
  • Current knowledge of industry and Human Resources best practices, trends and techniques
  • Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates close attention to detail

  • Bachelor's degree required; Human Resources or related field
  • Minimum of eight years of Human Resources experience.  Human Resources experience in a law firm or professional services firm required
