Job Summary

Skadden is looking for an Attorney Recruiting Manager for our Palo Alto office.  This position oversees the overall administration of the attorney recruiting function of the Palo Alto office, including management of law student, incoming and lateral attorney recruitment, and the summer associate program.  The Attorney Recruiting Manager works closely with office, hiring and diversity and inclusion leadership as well as global leadership in the New York office.  Additionally, this position:


  • Works with office leadership and the Hiring Committee to develop short and long-term hiring strategies to support summer associate, entry-level and lateral associate recruitment efforts that align with firm goals.
  • Oversees campus recruitment efforts including law school outreach, student group partnerships, branding and networking events.
  • Manages outreach and relationships with external organizations, including law student organizations, that align with, and support, diversity and inclusion hiring goals.
  • Manages recruitment of lateral attorney (non-partner) candidates from sourcing to selection.  Includes coordination with office and practice leadership to articulate needs, coordination with global leadership for internal approvals and interfacing with search firms.
  • Oversees summer associate program, including assignments, evaluations, feedback, training and social activities.
  • Performs and presents hiring outcome reports and analysis for Hiring Committee and firm leadership.
  • Prepares attorney recruiting annual budget and reviews, monitors and approves related expenses throughout the year. 
  • Performs financial analysis and contract term review in line with firm procedures related to events.
  • Manages attorney recruiting team in the Palo Alto office, including selection, training, outlining annual objectives and evaluation of staff performance. Monitors time, attendance, overtime and expense reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with firm policies.
  • Ensures current knowledge of firm policies and practices for staff, current knowledge of industry trends, and continued professional development for staff.
  • Recommends guidelines and practices to promote efficiency, effectiveness, top class service and improved employee engagement, in alignment with the firm's core values.
  • Manages Firm resources responsibly.
  • Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.


  • Strong ability to engage and collaborate with firm leaders, lawyers, students, career placement offices and business services professionals
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with poise and diplomacy and to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgement
  • Excellent responsiveness, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Superior time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize projects, meet deadlines and delegate effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with attorneys
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Lawcruit, with the ability to learn new software and operating systems.
  • Current knowledge of industry best practices, trend and techniques
  • Knowledge of firm operations, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and implementation of an annual budget process
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrates close attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience with leading and supervising others
  • Ability to administer firm policies and procedures

  • Bachelor's degree required 
  • Minimum of five years of attorney recruiting experience with a law firm or other professional services firm environment
