Job Summary

Skadden is seeking a Word Processing Operator to join our Document Processing Department in the Wilmington, Delaware office.  As a member of Skadden's professional staff, the Word Processing Operator will play an integral role in helping the Firm provide high-quality service to clients.  The team of  knowledgeable and talented staff at Skadden are dedicated to supporting our lawyers in their goal to provide excellence in legal and client services.  This is a second shift position with the following schedule:  Monday - Thursday:  5:00 pm - 12:30 am and Sunday:  9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

The position provides word processing support to both legal and non-legal staff. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operates desktop applications to create, edit, revise, format and print letters, memos, tables, reports, legal forms, filings, labels, envelopes, and other printed material. 

  • Responds to status requests about documents. 

  • Relocates to workstations near attorneys, as required, to assist secretaries, legal assistants, and attorneys with word processing duties as well as other support services, including telephone coverage, fax, and reproduction of documents. 

  • Proofreads work and assists other operators as needed. 

  • Transcribes tapes involving legal terminology. 

  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others. 

  • Manages Firm resources responsibly. 

  • Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies and procedures. 

  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 

 

 

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER JOB-RELATED COMPETENCIES: 

  • Knowledge of Firm operation, policies, and procedures

  • Knowledge of legal terminology

  • Typing skill at 55 words per minute

  • Ability to read, interpret and/or follow instructions

  • Ability to handle constant exposure to adverse conditions

  • Ability sit at workstation for extended periods of time

  • Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems

  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing

  • Demonstrates close attention to detail

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities

  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work

  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team

  • Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems

  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing

  • Demonstrates close attention to detail

  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities

Experience/Education

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum of two years’ experience
