Bio

Andrew Hanson represents a broad range of clients in investigations and enforcement actions brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and state enforcement authorities. Mr. Hanson has represented individuals and corporate clients in a wide range of complex civil litigation matters, including litigation involving federal securities and anti-discrimination laws, as well as regarding defamation claims.

Mr. Hanson has experience representing individuals and corporate clients in connection with investigations by the SEC, including parallel investigations conducted by the SEC and the DOJ. He also assisted in the successful representation of a former CEO in a criminal securities fraud trial, and represented U.S. and foreign companies in connection with FINRA inquiries. Additionally, Mr. Hanson has advised SEC-regulated entities on matters regarding compliance with federal securities laws and regulations and counseled consumer financial services institutions on issues involving compliance with state and federal consumer protection statutes and regulations. In recognition of his work, Mr. Hanson was selected to The National Black Lawyers’ Top 40 Under 40 list in 2023.

Mr. Hanson is committed to pro bono service. His experience includes representing individuals and organizations in matters involving voting rights, civil rights and Freedom of Information Act litigation and individuals in federal and state criminal matters. He also has contributed to multiple U.S. Supreme Court briefs, on behalf of parties and amici curiae, on various topics, including the death penalty, constitutional rights and federal securities laws.

During law school, Mr. Hanson worked as a student prosecutor in the Essex County District Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts, where he served as the lead prosecutor in a criminal jury trial, successfully securing a verdict on behalf of the state.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Hanson served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, during which he deployed overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
