Our attorneys based in Asia Pacific take on a wide range of matters throughout the region. On the corporate side, we advise on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, as well as the competition law issues raised in multinational M&A; capital markets matters; investment management; and banking transactions. We provide the full range of international dispute resolution services across the region, and we also counsel on internal investigations; enforcement actions; and related governance, disclosure and litigation matters. Our attorneys also focus on a wide range of energy and infrastructure projects and real estate-related transactions. The firm has handled matters in Australia, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Australia and New Zealand

Our attorneys represent Australian and New Zealand clients on the U.S. aspects of cross-border transactions, such as corporate finance and M&A deals. Our attorneys have participated in some of the largest debt and equity offerings by Australian and New Zealand companies in the U.S. and international capital markets, and we have been involved in many of the most significant mergers and acquisitions in the region. Skadden is ranked as a top tier firm for Capital Markets in Australia in Chambers Global 2017.

China

Our attorneys represent global clients and Chinese companies in cross-border M&A transactions, international capital-raising activities, private equity, investment management, banking, energy and infrastructure projects, international arbitration and litigation, and real estate and investment finance. Our lawyers practice U.S., Hong Kong, Japanese and English law, and we were the among the first major U.S. firms to establish a Hong Kong law practice. We ranked as a Tier 1 firm for Corporate/M&A and High-Yield Products in China by Chambers Asia-Pacific 2017. We also ranked in the top tier for M&A in Hong Kong by Asian Legal Business 2016.

India

Skadden has represented Indian and global companies in an increasing number of India-related business transactions. Our clients have included corporate acquirers, sellers and investors (including private equity firms) in mergers, acquisitions and international joint ventures involving Indian companies; multinational corporations in restructurings and divestitures involving Indian companies; companies outsourcing to India as well as Indian service providers; underwriters, issuers and investment advisers in international corporate financings by Indian issuers; Indian companies and international investors and their advisers on cross-border disputes as international counsel; and power project developers in complex project financing transactions. We recognize the importance of selecting and retaining appropriate Indian counsel with relevant experience in international transactions and have developed strong relationships with a number of leading Indian law firms. Japan

Skadden has extensive experience representing a broad spectrum of Japanese, U.S. and other international clients in highly diverse and complex cross-border transactions involving global markets. These transactions include: mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures; capital markets and structured finance transactions; and real estate acquisitions, joint ventures, and debt and equity financings. We also assist clients in restructurings and in the formation of investment funds. Skadden ranked as a Tier 1 firm for M&A in Japan from 2015-2016 by Asian Legal Business. We received awards for Japan Deal of the Year, M&A Deal of the Year and TMT Deal of the Year at the 2016 Asian Legal Business Japan Law Awards for our representation of Nikkei’s acquisition of The Financial Times Group. We also were ranked in the top three for completed Japanese M&A deals in 2015 according to Thomson Reuters. 

Korea

Our attorneys represent Korean and international corporations, financial institutions, private equity and hedge funds, government entities and sovereign wealth funds in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets deals, private equity transactions, and energy and infrastructure projects, as well as litigation and international arbitration matters. We frequently are recognized for our work throughout the region. We were recognized as a leading law firm for South Korea in Asian Legal Business’ M&A rankings from 2015-2016, and in 2015 Skadden was named among the top 10 international law firms in Korea by Legal Times. We also ranked first in M&A by dollar value of deals in Asia Pacific according to 2015 year-end rankings from Bloomberg.

Southeast Asia

We represent corporations, financial institutions, government entities and sovereign wealth funds throughout Southeast Asia in capital markets, M&A, private equity transactions, and energy and infrastructure projects, as well as litigation and international arbitration, internal and regulatory investigations, and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act matters. We were ranked first for M&A by deal value in Southeast Asia according to Bloomberg 2015. Skadden and its attorneys have been ranked as industry leaders in both Indonesia and the Philippines consistently by Chambers Asia-Pacific and Asia Pacific Legal 500. Chambers Asia-Pacific recently said Skadden was “widely commended for its firm grasp of the Philippines market” and noted that the firm is involved in “Indonesia’s largest projects, typically advising on all aspects of a matter.” In addition, a number of transactions we have advised on in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam have been selected as “Deals of the Year.”
