Tomoaki Kuragano focuses on corporate finance transactions and corporate transactions including cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions. He also advises on antitrust law, employment law and dispute resolutions.

His experience include advising:

  • PMC-Sierra Inc. in its US$2.5 billion acquisition by Microsemi Corporation;
  • Cavium, Inc. in its US$1.4 billion acquisition of QLogic Corp.;
  • Stryker Corporation in its US$1.3 billion acquisition of Physio-Control International, Inc.;
  • gumi Inc. (Japan) in its investment in VR Fund, L.P. and its joint venture with Marco DeMiroz and Tipitat Chennavasin, the fund’s founders, to invest in early-stage virtual reality companies;
  • GP Investments Acquisition Corp. in its acquisition of WKI Holding Company, Inc., the parent company of World Kitchen, LLC;
  • Gannett Co., Inc. in its US$156 million acquisition of ReachLocal, Inc. via a tender offer;
  • the underwriters on a SEC-registered bond offering of Japan Bank for International Cooperation (guaranteed by the Japanese government); and
  • the underwriters on the US$500 million SEC-registered bond offering of Japan International Cooperation Agency (guaranteed by the Japanese government).

Mr. Kuragano joined Skadden in 2015 and has worked at the firm’s Tokyo and Palo Alto offices. Prior to joining Skadden, he was an associate at a leading domestic law firm in Japan.
