Shauna Prewitt is an associate in Skadden’s Litigation Group. She has extensive experience representing a wide variety of clients in complex regulatory investigations and civil litigation in federal and state courts.

Ms. Prewitt has represented corporations and individuals in many regulatory investigations, including enforcement matters before the Department of Justice, the SEC, the PCAOB and various state attorneys general. These investigations have included the representation of financial institutions investigated under the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act (FIRREA); an investigation of a company’s financial restatements under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act; the representation of an accounting firm regarding purported accounting irregularities; and matters related to compliance with securities laws.

Ms. Prewitt also has represented companies in commercial litigation, including the special committee to the board of a media company engaged in litigation stemming from a leveraged buyout, shareholder derivative suits, cases brought under federal and state securities laws, and disputes relating to mergers and acquisitions and contracts.

Ms. Prewitt is committed to pro bono work. She takes on a steady caseload of pro bono work for matters including serving as a guardian ad litem, handling asylum and immigration issues, adoption issues, providing legal counsel to veterans and representing clients through the Public Defender Bar. Additionally, Ms. Prewitt is heavily involved in advocacy work for legal rights and protections for mothers of children conceived through rape. As a result of her work, Ms. Prewitt has been named to the Crain’s Chicago Business’ “40 Under 40” Class of 2016 and also was listed as an Emerging Lawyer in the 2016 inaugural edition of Emerging Lawyers Magazine.
