Claudia Upton focuses on complex international commercial disputes across a wide range of jurisdictions and sectors, including energy and natural resources, finance, and cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

In recognition of her work in international arbitration, Ms. Upton was named one of Best Lawyers’ 2023 Ones To Watch.

Ms. Upton’s representations include acting for:

  • one of the world’s leading tech communications companies in London-seated arbitrations concerning an investment in new blockchain technology and cryptocurrency platforms
  • a venture capital fund in arbitration proceedings under the JAMS rules regarding allegations of breaches of fiduciary in relation to significant portfolio assets
  • NE Property BV, a subsidiary of NEPI Rockcastle plc, in obtaining a favorable settlement of an LCIA arbitration concerning the impact of COVID-19 on its sale of a €300 million commercial real estate portfolio
  • a Russian company in a Stockholm-seated arbitration under the UNCITRAL rules against a major international oil company relating to a long-term production sharing agreement, involving claims in excess of US$10 billion
  • an international investment bank in defending allegations of financial fraud and contractual breach in excess of US$300 million involving court and arbitration proceedings in multiple jurisdictions
