Xuan Zhang is a corporate lawyer who focuses on the formation and operation of USD-denominated and RMB-denominated private investment funds, including buyout funds, credit funds, infrastructure funds, real estate funds, venture capital funds, hedge funds, and funds of funds.


Ms. Zhang has broad experience advising sponsors and investors on a variety of issues, including fund formation, co-investment, internal carry arrangements, secondary transactions, and regulatory and compliance matters.

Ms. Zhang is recognized in 2016 by Chambers Asia-Pacific, Legal 500 Asia Pacific and IFLR1000, where clients say that she is “very experienced and knowledgeable” and “extremely responsive.”

Ms. Zhang’s recent experience (including matters handled prior to joining the firm) includes acting for clients such as Abax Global Capital, Adamas Asset Management, BOCI, Bona Film Group, Gaja Capital, Fosun International, IMAX Corporation, Oaktree Capital, Orient Securities, Sailing Capital, Shenzhen Fortune, Tiantu Capital, Yi Capital, Warburg Pincus, Warner Brothers, WuXi Pharma and a number of sovereign wealth funds, funds of funds and other institutional investors.

Prior to joining Skadden in 2017, Ms. Zhang was a counsel in the investment funds practice of a leading international law firm’s Hong Kong and Beijing offices. Before that, she worked as an associate at a top-tier global law firm in New York, focusing on the formation and operation of private investment funds.

Ms. Zhang writes and speaks on private investment funds topics. She is frequently quoted in industry publications such as Asian Venture Capital Journal, The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones.
