California Corporate Group Receives 'Corporate Department of the Year' Awards
Skadden's California corporate practice was recognized in three categories — more than any other law firm — as part of The Recorder's biannual "Corporate Department of the Year" contest, which recognizes the firms that handled the most innovative and significant corporate matters in the prior year. Skadden's California team was a finalist in the "Overall" category and took top honors in the "U.S. M&A" and "Technology Transactions" categories. In addition, Palo Alto partner Kenton King was recognized with a "Trusted Advisor" award, which honors individuals whose engagements have demonstrated that clients seek them out for their strategic insight into particular industry sectors.

Palo Alto-Based Deal Team Recognized With CLAY Award
The team that guided Broadcom Corporation through its $37 billion acquisition by Avago Technologies (the largest-ever semiconductor deal) was awarded a California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year (CLAY) Award by the Daily Journal. The CLAY Awards annually recognize California attorneys whose work has had a significant impact on the law, an industry or the legal profession. In a March 16 article describing the deal, the publication recognized Palo Alto attorneys Kenton King, Leif King, Jason Tomita, Barry Chang, Joseph Halloum, Sonia Nijjar, Charles Rogerson and Naoko Watanabe, corporate; Nathan Giesselman and Su Da, tax; Anne Villanueva, labor and employment; Amy Park and Rick Horvath, litigation; and Joseph Yaffe and Kristin Davis, executive compensation and benefits.

Palo Alto executive compensation and benefits counsel Alessandra Murata and corporate associate Sara Terheggen are among 100 women included in the Silicon Valley Business Journal's "Women of Influence" list, which recognizes women who have "blazed trails" in education, energy, finance, law and technology.
Raoul Kennedy and Team Receive 'Top Verdict'
Of counsel Raoul Kennedy, along with counsel James Schaefer and associates William Casey and Pramode Chiruvolu, received a "Top Verdict" accolade from the Daily Journal for a plaintiffs' verdict they won on behalf of a class of more than 3,000 sitting and retired California state judges in Robert M. Mallano v. John Chiang (Los Angeles Superior Court).

Palo Alto litigation partner Jack DiCanio was one of 11 Skadden attorneys named to Who's Who Legal Investigations' 2016 list of the world's leading investigations attorneys. As in past editions of the book, Skadden had more attorneys listed than any other law firm.

Sara Terheggen Receives Award From the University of Oregon
Palo Alto corporate associate Sara Terheggen was selected by the University of Oregon to receive its 2015 "Outstanding Young Alumni Award." The award honors alumni under age 46 who have demonstrated "outstanding professional achievement and personal dedication to their community." In five years, only two other graduates have received the honor, which is awarded only when the university is aware of highly deserving alumni who have demonstrated exemplary levels of success and community involvement.

Allen Ruby Recognized as 'Attorney of the Year'
Palo Alto litigation partner Allen Ruby received the "Professional Lawyer of the Year" award from the Santa Clara County Bar Association. The award is given to active, respected practitioners who are chosen by their peers as an example of unimpeachable character and who serve as an embodiment of the standards set forth in the Santa Clara County Bar Association Code of Professionalism and as a role model for other attorneys practicing in Santa Clara County.
Kenton King and Joseph Yaffe Recognized Among 'Top 100'
Palo Alto partners Kenton King (corporate) and Joseph Yaffe (executive compensation and benefits) were recognized by the Daily Journal in its annual list of the “Top 100” lawyers in California.
