Farmers Obtains Class Action Dismissal

Skadden secured the dismissal of a class action against members of the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies, who were charged with violating California’s Unfair Competition Law and breaching their duties of good faith in seeking reimbursement of medical payment advances. On April 20, Judge Carl West, of the California Superior Court’s Complex Litigation Department in Los Angeles, ruled the plaintiffs did not have standing to pursue their UCL claims and that, in any event, the defendants’ actions did not violate the UCL. The plaintiffs elected not to appeal and voluntarily dismissed the case with prejudice.
