Mississippi Court Vacates Inmate's Death Sentence

Skadden secured a major victory for pro bono client Fred Spicer in a Mississippi state court post-conviction case in which Spicer's death sentence was vacated and set aside. On February 22, the Circuit Court of George County, Miss., granted Spicer's petition for post-conviction relief, finding that he had put forth sufficient evidence to undermine confidence in his death sentence. Spicer’s case was reinstated to the active trial calendar for a new jury trial on the sole issue of sentencing.
