Court Preserves Dismissal of Class Action Against Auction House

On behalf of Christie's, Inc., Skadden secured the denial of a motion to alter or amend judgment, preserving the previously granted dismissal with prejudice of a class action in which several prominent artists or their representatives had sought to enforce the California Resale Royalty Act, California Civil Code Section 986(a). On July 29, Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California entered judgment in favor of Christie's, holding that the plaintiffs were "seek[ing] to relitigate the same issues that have already been decided" in the motion to dismiss.
