Baker Hughes Secures Appellate Win

Skadden represented Baker Hughes, a GE company LLC in securing an affirmance by the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department, of the dismissal of a lawsuit seeking to recover damages for injuries sustained by employees of Baker Hughes affiliates in Africa. Baker Hughes is incorporated and headquartered outside New York. The Appellate Division, First Department, resolved a split among trial courts and held that corporations do not consent to general jurisdiction in New York merely by registering to do business in the state.
