Capital markets partner Michael Hong was profiled in Financier Worldwide as part of the Power Players: Debt Capital Markets 2026 Distinguished Advisers report. In an interview, Mr. Hong discussed his experience advising on high-yield debt offerings and complex private equity financing transactions, as well as liability management and restructuring transactions in numerous industries.
Reflecting on how the 2008 financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic shaped his practice, Mr. Hong said, “Both periods reinforced a lesson that has stayed with me: markets can change overnight, and the best lawyers must be resilient, practical and ready to help clients be proactive.”
Discussing key developments on the horizon in debt capital markets, Mr. Hong predicted continued activity even amid volatility, with M&A serving as an important catalyst. “The key development ahead is not simply volume, but selectivity,” he said. “Issuers will need to be prepared, opportunistic and ready to move quickly when market windows open.”
