PLI’s 7th Annual Patent Law Institute

Douglas R. Nemec

New York patent and technology litigation partners Douglas Nemec and Anthony Sammi participated in PLI's 7th Annual Patent Law Institute, held  March 18-19 in San Francisco and webcast live.

Mr. Nemec, who co-chaired the program, presented a program overview and moderated a session titled "Perspectives on the Patent System From the Judiciary and Industry." The session focused on perspectives from the judiciary on what parties are doing right and wrong in patent enforcement and defense, as well as perspectives from in-house counsel on what courts are doing well and what courts could be doing better to achieve efficient and fair outcomes in patent cases.

Mr. Sammi led a "breakout" session about litigating against nonpracticing entities (NPE), focusing on such topics as the unique aspects of litigating against NPEs, proven strategies for defeating them, special considerations regarding remedies and dealing with joint defense groups.  The program also was held February 4-5 in New York.
