Bio

Stephanie Foster represents financial institutions, corporations and individuals in connection with investigations and enforcement actions brought by federal and state regulators. She also advises clients in internal investigations and compliance reviews and has experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes civil litigation. Representative matters include:

  • a consumer reporting agency in connection with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau inquiries and investigations relating to the Fair Credit Reporting Act and unfair, deceptive, and abusive acts and practices
  • a financial services company as part of a comprehensive review of internal policies and procedures designed to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and identify potential risk
  • a gaming company in connection with a federal lawsuit involving state and federal false advertising claims brought by a competitor
  • an individual accused of money laundering and other crimes
  • an insurance company in connection with a congressional inquiry
  • a U.S. trust and foundation in protracted federal civil litigation involving U.S. and foreign law
  • a pharmaceutical company in an internal investigation regarding potential conflicts of interest

Ms. Foster is committed to pro bono practice. During her time at Skadden, she has represented clients in an appeal of a class action lawsuit challenging a coercive plea bargaining policy, filed amicus briefs on behalf of the Innocence Project in the District of Columbia and Maryland state court, and facilitated communications between the Department of Justice and crime victims.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Foster clerked for the Hon. Gerald Bard Tjoflat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

During law school, Ms. Foster externed with the Department of Justice’s Civil Appellate Staff, worked as a student attorney at the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office — where she second-chaired a murder prosecution — and interned at the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Office of Inspector General.
