Barnaby Gibson is a corporate lawyer in Skadden’s Palo Alto office, where his practice focuses on M&A and capital markets transactions on behalf of technology companies, private equity firms and investment banks.
He has experience in a wide range of transactions and strategic situations, including:
advising well-known technology and media companies and private equity firms in connection with public and private acquisitions and dispositions, as well as joint ventures and strategic technology and content licensing agreements;
representing leading issuers and underwriters in public and private equity and debt offerings, complex exchange offers and debt restructuring transactions, and securities laws compliance; and
counseling in reorganizations and distressed situations, both in and out of bankruptcy court, representing debtors and strategic and financial investors.
Prior to his time with Skadden, Mr. Gibson assisted another law firm in establishing an office in California and its global technology practice during the dot-com boom. He also served for many years as general counsel of ITHAKA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping universities, libraries and other research institutions take advantage of advances in information technology.
Mr. Gibson is a practice leader for “Know Your Rights and Know the Law: Sexual and Social Media Misconduct,” an innovative pro bono project between Skadden’s Palo Alto office and the nonprofit Legal Advocates for Children and Youth, which focuses on educating Bay Area teens about laws relating to social media usage.
