Bio
Mr. Griffin’s practice encompasses advice on all aspects of fund management, and he counsels clients on matters across asset classes and alternative investment products. His clients can be found in private equity, hedge funds, credit, distressed debt, real estate, futures, managed accounts, funds of funds and listed investment companies.
Having served as longtime counsel to leading sovereign wealth funds (SWFs), Mr. Griffin represents numerous institutional investors and other government-backed clients on their global investments.
Clients rely on Mr. Griffin to advise on intricate fund structures, private placements and compliance with various regulatory regimes. With a deep understanding of the international funds business and regulatory landscape, Mr. Griffin helps clients develop practical solutions to complex challenges.
He has assisted with regulatory and legal compliance issues raised in multiple jurisdictions — including Brazil, the U.S., the U.K., the European Union and Abu Dhabi — and in harmonizing compliance policies with respect to each jurisdiction.
In his decade-long tenure of service in the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Griffin honed leadership and project management skills that prove valuable in managing large, complex international transactions.

Mr. Griffin’s representative experience prior to joining Skadden includes advising:
- a U.S.-based manager in the creation of a joint venture with an Indian adviser to manage a distressed debt investment platform in India. Assisted in structuring the platform to comply with legal and regulatory programs in the U.S., India and Mauritius
- a Middle Eastern government-backed investor in raising third-party capital for investment in a number of Brazilian infrastructure projects. Structured the investment in a manner to ensure compliance with the laws and regulations of Brazil, the U.S. and the Cayman Islands
- a Pakistan-based manager in structuring, organizing and fundraising for a private equity fund focused on small and medium enterprises. Also ensured regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions
- an Indian-based investment manager in structuring, organizing and fundraising for a closed-end social impact fund focused on Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, also ensuring regulatory compliance
- a Singapore-based manager in the formation of its new management business and its first Asian-focused venture capital fund
