Bio

Nic Nivison advises financial institutions, fintech companies and other financial services firms on a broad range of banking regulatory, supervisory, enforcement and consumer financial services matters.

Prior to joining Skadden, Mr. Nivison served for six years as counsel at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), where he advised on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters affecting national banks and federal savings associations. His work included matters involving BSA/AML obligations, unfair or deceptive acts or practices, fair lending, mortgage lending, fraud, data privacy and questions involving bank powers and regulatory interpretation.

Mr. Nivison draws on experience at both the OCC and the U.S. House of Representatives, as well as in-house in the mortgage industry, to help clients navigate complex regulatory requirements, supervisory expectations and rapidly evolving financial services policy. Mr. Nivison’s combination of regulatory, legislative and in-house experience gives him an extensive understanding of the legal frameworks and practical considerations that shape clients’ strategic operational and regulatory decision-making, enabling him to effectively guide clients through their most complex financial regulatory matters. In particular, his federal government background assists in providing clients with insights into how banking agencies approach legal and supervisory issues, as well as into how developments in Congress can affect the regulatory landscape.

While at the OCC, Mr. Nivison was its representative to the House Committee on Financial Services, where he advised members of Congress and staff on banking and consumer financial services legislation, regulatory policy and congressional oversight. His work included shaping legislative and policy matters involving the OCC, Federal Reserve, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, including issues relating to supervision, enforcement, rulemaking and the allocation of regulatory authority among federal and state agencies.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Nivison worked in the mortgage industry, where he gained firsthand experience engaging with the operational and compliance issues facing regulated financial services companies.
