Mark E. Rakoczy has a broad range of litigation, trial and appellate experience. He previously served in the Cook County State Attorney's Office where he tried dozens of jury trials and hundreds of bench trials, the majority of which were murder cases and Class X felonies.

Bio

Mr. Rakoczy also served as a trial supervisor, chief of the Municipal Division, and chief deputy State’s Attorney.

Over the past 14 years, Mr. Rakoczy has represented corporate and individual defendants in complex litigation, including federal and state class actions, mass tort proceedings and lengthy jury trials. The following are representative of his experience in civil litigation matters:

  • defense of toxic tort cases on behalf of a manufacturer of sterilizing equipment;
  • jury trials in medical malpractice, breach of contract and toxic tort litigations;
  • defense of hundreds of opt-out cases, including jury trials, involving opt-out litigation arising from salmonella contamination of milk; and
  • defense of thousands of cases in asbestos litigation, on behalf of a major insurance company charged with fraud and civil conspiracy.

Mr. Rakoczy has presented numerous demonstrations of direct and cross examinations, opening statements and closing arguments as part of training programs for other lawyers. He has also taught Trial Advocacy and Advanced Trial Advocacy at the John Marshall Law School and Loyola University School of Law.

Mr. Rakoczy is pro bono counsel for the Chicago office, a charter signatory to the Pro Bono Institute’s Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge.
