Raza Rasheed represents clients in complex appeals and disputes at all levels of the federal and state court systems, from high-stakes cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and federal courts of appeals to cutting-edge jury trials and administrative proceedings.

Bio

Mr. Rasheed has briefed high-stakes appeals before the U.S. Supreme Court and federal and state appellate courts. He has also represented clients in a wide range of complex civil cases in federal and state trial courts, administrative proceedings and private arbitrations, including multibillion-dollar securities and consumer class actions, trade secret misappropriation cases and defamation cases, among others. Mr. Rasheed’s substantial briefing, argument and general litigation experience at all levels of the U.S. legal system help position clients to win make-or-break cases on appeal. He also has extensive experience in dispositive-motions practice and preserving critical issues for appeal. In recognition of his work, Mr. Rasheed has been repeatedly named one of Best Lawyers’ Ones To Watch in America.

  • In re Credit Default Swaps Antitrust Litigation: Citibank in helping to secure a decision from the Second Circuit affirming an injunction blocking multibillion-dollar antitrust claims
  • Carpenters’Pension Fund v. Neidorff: Centene Corporation in helping to secure a decision from the Eighth Circuit affirming dismissal of shareholder derivative claims
  • Goldstein v. Neumann: WeWork Inc. in helping to secure a decision from the California Court of Appeal enforcing the company’s forum selection bylaw against stockholder class and derivative claims
  • Polselli v. IRS: A law firm in challenging an IRS summons seeking its bank records before the U.S. Supreme Court
  • Codoni v. Port of Seattle: Alaska Airlines in an appeal before the Ninth Circuit seeking preemption of state law claims attempting to regulate aircraft emissions
  • Airlines for America v. Department of Transportation: Airlines for America in an appeal before the Fifth Circuit challenging a Department of Transportation regulation governing the disclosure of airline fees
  • Evard v. Monsanto Co.: Monsanto Company in securing a unanimous defense verdict (reached after three hours of deliberations) following a seven-week jury trial in Cook County, Illinois, against claims brought by four plaintiffs who alleged that they developed non-Hodgkins lymphoma after being exposed to Monsanto’s Roundup weed killer and fire-retardant additives known as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) made by the company
  • Kytch, Inc. v. Gamble: Taylor Commercial Foodservice in securing a favorable settlement of high-profile trade secret and defamation claims litigated before the Third Circuit as well as state and federal courts in California and Delaware. Prior to settlement, Mr. Rasheed assisted in securing the complete denial of a motion for a preliminary injunction, as well as the complete dismissal of federal trademark claims brought in Delaware
  • Ikeda v. Baidu: Baidu, Inc. and two of its senior officers in securing the dismissal of a federal securities class action alleging that the company had misrepresented its ability to comply with Chinese internet content regulations in a series of 12 public statements spanning more than a year. This case was recognized by the Daily Journal as one of the Top Verdicts of 2021 in California

Mr. Rasheed also maintains an active pro bono practice, representing clients in cases at all levels of federal and state courts. Among other cases, he has argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit on behalf of an inmate denied years of good-time credits. He has also helped a group of aspiring massage therapists obtain a preliminary injunction requiring a quasi-state agency to grant them practices licenses, and continues to defend his clients’ win before the California Court of Appeal.

Before joining Skadden, Mr. Rasheed clerked for Judge Eric L. Clay of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and Judge Marilyn L. Huff of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.
