Bio

Matthias Schlau advises clients on all aspects of EU, German and international competition law, including merger control, abuse of dominance, cartels, investigations and antitrust compliance issues. He also counsels clients on matters involving the EU’s Digital Markets Act. Mr. Schlau has worked with clients from a broad range of industries, including technology, automotive and transportation, among others.

Mr. Schlau joined Skadden in April 2023. His experience since joining the firm includes advising:

  • a global media service in relation to Digital Markets Act matters
  • Fortress Investment Group LLC on SoftBank Group Corp.’s sale of a 90% stake in Fortress to Mubadala Investment Company PJSC and senior management of Fortress

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Schlau worked in the Munich office of another international law firm. His work included advising:

  • a leading German original equipment manufacturer on cartel allegations brought forward by the European Commission
  • leading companies in the German automotive and IT industries on the consultation of the Catena-X project (one of the flagship projects for the development of European data infrastructure) with the German Federal Cartel Office
  • a number of clients from the passenger transportation sector, including private bus and rail undertakings, in proceedings before courts and competition authorities
  • a client from the medical device sector as a third party in a merger proceeding of the European Commission
