Bio

Andrew J. Schrag represents financial services institutions, financial technology companies, and other corporations in a wide range of complex civil litigation. Mr. Schrag has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts around the country in putative class actions and cases involving antitrust, qui tam, securities and breach of contract issues.

Representative matters include:

  • Defending a financial services company in antitrust class actions and other litigations alleging a conspiracy among credit card networks and certain banks to set credit and debit card interchange fees and network rules
  • Representing a financial services company in antitrust class actions and related state False Claims Act litigations alleging anticompetitive activity related to variable rate debt obligations
  • Defending a financial technology company in litigation concerning whether its business practices complied with regulations imposed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control
  • Representing a South American alternative asset placement agency in a matter involving breach of contract claims
  • Advising a utility company in its successful defense against and resolution of a federal securities class action and four shareholder derivative actions asserted after the announcement of energy trading losses
  • Representing a former chief executive of a power-generation company involving breach of contract claims

Mr. Schrag maintains an active pro bono practice. He has contributed to multiple U.S. Supreme Court and courts of appeals briefs on behalf of amici curiae on various topics, including veterans’ issues and constitutional rights. Mr. Schrag is also involved in Skadden’s recruiting efforts and serves on the firm’s Associate Recruiting Committee.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Schrag served for 12 years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, during which time he was a B-52H aircraft commander and a T-38C instructor pilot. He also served with the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) as a member of the military component’s command staff.
