Nigel Tamton has counseled on a wide range of matters across various industries, including complex civil litigation and arbitration, responses to government investigations, corporate governance issues and disputes arising out of corporate transactions.

Bio

Mr. Tamton regularly advises on securities cases, disputes arising out of insurance and reinsurance relationships, class action litigation, antitrust actions, trade secret misappropriation cases and intellectual property matters.

Mr. Tamton’s representations include:

  • defending a Boston-based technology company and its former officers in a federal securities class action litigated in Massachusetts federal court
  • working on the plaintiff-side prosecution on behalf of a Boston-based biopharmaceutical company in a contract dispute in Massachusetts state court
  • counseling a mutual insurance company in arbitration proceedings involving a claims dispute with a reinsurer
  • advising the board of directors of a Fortune 500 retailer in numerous matters, including responses to multiple shareholder demands and advice in connection with board governance questions
  • defending a global financial services firm in connection with inquiries by the Massachusetts Securities Division

Mr. Tamton has an active pro bono practice and regularly handles matters related to housing, immigration and wrongful convictions. He has received several awards in recognition of his extensive efforts in coordination with the New England Innocence Project to help overturn the wrongful conviction of a man who spent 41 years in prison for first-degree murder, including a 2025 Adams Pro Bono Publico Award from the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services, the inaugural Mary K. Ryan Achievement in Pro Bono Award from the Boston Bar Association, Litigator of the Week by The AmLaw Litigation Daily and the New England Innocence Project’s inaugural Marching Toward Freedom award. In addition, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly has honored Mr. Tamton with a Pro Bono Spotlight award and recognized him as one of its 2024 Up & Coming Lawyers. He also serves on the board of Lawyers for Civil Rights.
