Ronald J. Weiss
Ronald J. Weiss' practice focuses on estate planning and taxation, and the representation of not-for-profit organizations, principally private foundations.

Bio

Mr. Weiss is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He is the immediate past chair of the Trusts and Estates Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and the former chair of the Section’s committees on practice and ethics, and legislation. Mr. Weiss is also a member of the New York City Bar (Committee on Estate and Gift Taxation 1996-1999, 2002-2006, 2009-2012; Committee on Trusts, Estates and Surrogate’s Courts 1999-2002; and Committee on Nonprofit Organizations 1993-1996) and is a member of the Surrogate’s Court Advisory Committee created by the New York State Legislature. He has lectured on estate planning for the New York State Bar Association, the New York City Bar and the Practising Law Institute. Mr. Weiss has written a subchapter on charitable annuity societies in New York Insurance Law (1991), and is the author of “Demonstrative Bequests to Charity of Income in Respect of a Decedent: Tax Consequences and Drafting Problems,” 44 Albany Law Review 237 (1979). He is a member of the board of directors of the Flom Family Foundation and MFY Legal Services Inc. He was a script consultant, for which he received an on-screen credit, for the film Changing Lanes (Paramount, 2002). Mr. Weiss is listed in The Best Lawyers of America and was named Best Lawyers’ 2017 New York City Trust and Estates Lawyer of the Year.

Mr. Weiss joined Skadden, Arps in 1995. Before joining Skadden, he was counsel at another major international law firm. He served as a law clerk to the Hon. Charles R. Simpson of the U.S. Tax Court from 1980 until 1982. Before attending law school, Mr. Weiss was a trust officer with State Bank of Albany in Albany, New York.
