Skadden obtained the dismissal of a charge against Hauser & Wirth Gallery Limited, the U.K. subsidiary of Hauser & Wirth AG, in a case involving an alleged breach of trade sanctions under the U.K.’s Russia sanctions regime. The case related specifically to the luxury goods ban.
Skadden filed an application with Southwark Crown Court. The prosecution alleged that the U.K. gallery made available a luxury good to a former customer after the ban was introduced in April 2022. The court concluded that the prosecution was unable to establish that the former customer was, at the relevant time, a "person connected with Russia" and dismissed the case in its entirety.
