Capital markets partner John Zelenbaba has been named to Law360’s list of Rising Stars, recognizing “top litigators and dealmakers” under 40 “practicing at a level usually seen from veteran attorneys.” In a Q&A, Mr. Zelenbaba discussed his career at Skadden, highlighting landmark fintech transactions — including high-profile deals in the cryptocurrency space — and his approach to building lasting client relationships.
Reflecting on what drives him, Mr. Zelenbaba emphasized the satisfaction of finding consensus among the many stakeholders in a deal. “You’ve got the founders, you’ve got the existing holders, venture capital investors, you’ve got the board, you’ve got the banks,” he said. “I think helping them find consensus and with input get to the result that everyone wants is rewarding.”
Mr. Zelenbaba also discussed the value of building lasting client relationships and getting to know their business, saying, “What matters is understanding the industry your clients are working in, understanding the market for whatever they’re doing.” He added that being a trusted adviser to clients means “helping them look around corners” and providing strategic advice.
