Greg Norman’s practice focuses on advising private capital businesses on their formation and operations. This work includes private fund capitalization and structuring, as well as the formation and regulation of private capital sponsors, including investment managers and advisers. In addition, Mr. Norman counsels on incentive compensation arrangements, internal governance arrangements and regulatory compliance.

Bio

Working together with other specialist departments in the firm, Mr. Norman guides private capital clients through the path to institutionalization by designing and implementing bespoke solutions for their fund and investment structures, as well as internal governance, compensation and compliance arrangements. He also advises on a range of ESG-related issues, including relevant policies and due diligence, disclosures and regulatory obligations.

Mr. Norman’s experience also includes mergers and acquisitions of fund management businesses and secondary transactions in fund interests, as well as a number of public and private acquisitions by private equity funds and other financial institutions.

Mr. Norman is head of the London office’s Investment Management Group, which has been recognised as a leading practice by The Legal 500 UK and IFLR1000, with clients in the former stating “the practice is unique as despite being one of the most established and reputable law firms out there, it continues to innovate and develop in emerging sectors and areas.” He also is individually recommended in Chambers UK for his work in Investment Funds, Who’s Who Legal 2023 as a Global Leader for Private Funds – Formation and The Best Lawyers in the UK 2024 for Private Equity Law. 

Recent highlights include:

  • BlackRock in its acquisition of Kreos Capital, a leading provider of growth and venture debt financing in Europe and Israel
  • Crosstree Real Estate Partners in the formation of its third Special Situations Fund, a U.K.-focused special situations real estate fund, and related co-investments
  • a leading sovereign wealth fund in its cornerstone investment in certain private equity funds and private equity real estate funds and related continuation vehicles

Mr. Norman writes and speaks extensively on asset management matters and is a co-host of Skadden’s “The Preferred Return” podcast, which focuses on key developments and regulatory updates in the private capital space.

Mr. Norman is a vice-chair of the ESG Committee of the City of London Law Society. He is actively involved in a number of pro bono projects, including working with a clinic that assists victims of domestic violence and addresses other family issues. He also is actively engaged in the firm’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, particularly in its London and European offices.
