On May 14, Skadden presented a seminar in New York titled "The Big Payback: A Candid Discussion of General Counsel Compensation Trends." The seminar focused on the variables that influence GC compensation as well as trends and recent experience related to salary, equity and mobility. Topics included the varying types of equity and other compensation elements; nonmonetary elements, such as reporting structure and supplemental titles; strategies for increasing compensation; trends in employment, severance and change-in-control agreements; and ethical considerations. The discussion was moderated by Skadden global executive compensation and benefits head Regina Olshan. Panelists included Andrew Bonzani, senior vice president, general counsel and secretary at Interpublic Group; James Brelsford, Skadden of counsel and former chief legal officer and senior vice president of IP licensing at SanDisk Corporation; Steve Hinden, director of executive compensation at Towers Watson; and Lee Udelsman, New York managing partner at Major, Lindsey & Africa.
