Quinn M. Balliett
Bio
Quinn Balliett represents clients around the world in international arbitration and litigation matters, including in complex commercial and investor-state disputes.
Ms. Balliett has advised on disputes before the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Court of Arbtiration, the American Arbiration Association (AAA)/International Center for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), the Centre de Médiation et d’Arbitrage de Paris (CMAP) and JAMS. She has also appeared before state and federal courts, including the New York Commercial Division and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
Recent representative matters include acting for:
- Agility Public Warehousing Company KSCP in its bilateral investment treaty case against the Republic of Iraq relating to Agility’s investment in Iraqi telecommunications operator Korek Telecom, resulting in a rare investor-state arbitration annulment
- a major insurance company in a CMAP dispute arising out of an agreement to retrocede a significant portion of the company’s business to another major insurer
- a member of a New York-based international arts company engaged in the representation, management and booking of classical and contemporary artists in a shareholder dispute before JAMS and subsequent New York state court proceedings to confirm the arbitration award
- Obagi Cosmeceuticals LLC in a dispute in California state court regarding the distribution of its products in Southeast Asian markets
- a British Virgin Islands company in seeking an anti-suit and anti-enforcement injunction before the High Court of Justice of England and Wales in favor of ICC arbitration under an agreement to provide management and technical support to an African telecommunications company
Ms. Balliett also has an active pro bono practice and represents parties in immigration and defamation matters.
