Bio

Chris Coulson represents technology, pharmaceutical, manufacturing and other companies in a wide range of intellectual property and commercial litigation matters. Mr. Coulson has extensive experience handling cases in federal courts and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). He has served as lead counsel on over 10 inter partes review proceedings before the PTAB and as lead author of numerous ex parte reexamination requests to the USPTO. Mr. Coulson also has experience working on International Trade Commission matters.

Prior to joining Skadden, Mr. Coulson served as a trial attorney at the Department of Justice and as an associate at other major law firms.

Mr. Coulson dedicates a portion of his practice to pro bono matters, including, among other representations, serving as lead counsel on a Section 1983 civil rights trial in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Earlier in his career, he argued and won the reversal of a criminal conviction on constitutional grounds before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Coulson was a practicing engineer for several years.
