Astrid Medianero Bottger
Bio
Trained in both civil and common law, Astrid Medianero Bottger advises clients on the resolution of disputes arising from complex, cross-border commercial transactions, as well as the protection of global investments under international treaties. Ms. Medianero Bottger’s experience encompasses the negotiation and settlement of disputes prior to the commencement of arbitration proceedings.
Prior to joining Skadden, Ms. Medianero Bottger practiced at prominent law firms in New York, Paris and Lima, Peru, where she developed substantial experience in investor-state arbitrations administered under the auspices of ICSID and the Permanent Court of Arbitration involving, in particular, investments in Latin America. She also served as legal counsel at a leading Latin American private equity fund and has experience working on investment contracts, public-private partnerships, cross-border mergers, acquisitions, dispositions and other corporate matters. Ms. Medianero Bottger is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and French.
Select representations prior to and since joining Skadden include advising Freeport-McMoRan and Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde in an ICSID arbitration brought against the Republic of Peru under the United States-Peru Free Trade Agreement; SMM Cerro Verde Netherlands B.V. in an ICSID arbitration brought against the Republic of Peru under the Netherlands-Peru BIT; the Plurinational State of Bolivia in an investment dispute arising from nationalization issues in the airports sector; and a French company in a large dispute governed by French law, venued in Paris and in the French language.
