Lisa Gilford and Richard Marmaro Among 'Top 100'
Five Skadden attorneys were named to the Daily Journal's annual "Top 100," a list of California lawyers doing cutting-edge legal work, including Los Angeles partners Lisa Gilford and Richard Marmaro. For the second consecutive year, Skadden had more attorneys on the list than any other law firm, nonprofit or other entity.
Lisa Gilford and Nili Moghaddam Among Most Influential Lawyers
Los Angeles litigation partner Lisa Gilford and counsel Nili Moghaddam were named to the Los Angeles Business Journal's 2016 list of "Most Influential Minority Lawyers." Ms. Gilford was recognized as a "go-to" lawyer for companies facing their most challenging and significant issues and for leading numerous high-profile class action matters. Ms. Moghaddam was recognized for her major role in the representation of a global health care corporation in a Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigation conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as well as her work on a lawsuit brought by Ameritox, Ltd. against Millennium Laboratories, Inc. for false advertising and unfair business practices.
David Eisman Recognized as a Top 'Power Lawyer' in Hollywood
For the second year in a row, Los Angeles corporate partner David Eisman was recognized in the Hollywood "Power Lawyers" report, published by The Hollywood Reporter. To determine "Hollywood's most influential attorneys," The Hollywood Reporter researches deals and legal cases of the past year. Mr. Eisman was recognized for his work advising United Talent Agency, Relativity Media and its co-founder Ryan Kavanaugh, RatPac Entertainment and Brett Ratner, among others.
David Eisman Named to Variety’s 2015 Hollywood ‘Dealmakers Impact Report’
Variety has recognized Los Angeles corporate partner David Eisman as one of the top power players in entertainment industry transactions in its 2015 “Dealmakers Impact Report.” Variety highlighted Mr. Eisman’s involvement with several high-profile Hollywood transactions, including his representation of United Talent Agency in a sale of a minority stake, the acquisition of music agency The Agency Group and the acquisition of the majority of CAA’s comedy agents.
Richard Marmaro Named a 'White Collar Crime Trailblazer'
Richard Marmaro, the head of Skadden's West Coast SEC enforcement and white collar defense practice, was named to The National Law Journal's 2015 list of "White Collar Crime Trailblazers." The "Trailblazers" series honors individuals who have advanced their legal practice areas through the use of innovative strategies. The "White Collar Crime" list celebrated just 50 lawyers from throughout the country for exemplary achievements. Mr. Marmaro was recognized for, among other things, his work successfully defending William J. Ruehle, the former CFO of Broadcom, in the largest stock options backdating case brought by the federal government.
Skadden Honored by Public Counsel for Preventing Homelessness
On November 5, Skadden and a Los Angeles-based litigation team received the Pro Bono Award from Public Counsel. The organization’s Homelessness Prevention Law Project recognized the team’s leadership, ongoing commitment to justice and outstanding work representing tenants facing housing discrimination. The team successfully litigated three eviction cases in partnership with Public Counsel, and helped the organization fend off a meritless abuse of discovery deposition subpoena, ultimately winning almost $4,000 in sanctions and fees. The team includes Matt Sloan, Emily Aviad, Daniel Blau, Antonieta Pimienta, Rachael Schiffman, Grayce Frink, Shannon Cooper, Marie Davis, Matt Tako and Matt Delgado.
George Fatheree Among 2015 'Fifty Under 40'
Los Angeles real estate counsel George Fatheree was named to Real Estate Forum's 2015 "Fifty Under 40" list. George was recognized for his pro bono work representing charter schools, students with special needs, survivors of the Holocaust and the American Jewish University, and advocating for disability rights.

As a decade-long sponsor, Skadden was honored for our commitment to education equity and dedication to the local community. Los Angeles Attorneys Named ‘2016 Best Lawyers in America’
Fourteen Los Angeles partners and one of counsel were named to the 2016 edition of Best Lawyers in America, which annually ranks attorneys on the basis of peer reviews and other factors: Jeffrey Cohen, David Eisman, Rodrigo Guerra and Gregg Noel (Corporate Law); Karen Corman (Labor and Employment); K. Kristine Dunn and David Kitchen (Banking); Van Durrer (Corporate Restructuring); Michael Gisser and Brian McCarthy (M&A); Richard Marmaro, Peter Morrison, Tom Nolan and Matthew Sloan (Litigation); and Rand April (Real Estate).
Additionally, Richard Marmaro was named “Los Angeles Litigation — Regulatory Enforcement (SEC, Telecom, Energy) Lawyer of the Year” and Brian McCarthy was named “Los Angeles Mergers and Acquisitions Lawyer of the Year.” Best Lawyers recognizes only one lawyer in each practice and geographical area as “Lawyer of the Year.” Attorneys are selected based on peer-review assessments. According to the publication, “this designation reflects the high level of respect a lawyer has earned among other leading lawyers in the same communities and the same practice areas for their abilities, their professionalism, and their integrity.”

Richard Marmaro and Matthew Sloan Among Most Influential in White Collar and Cyber Crime
Los Angeles litigation partners Richard Marmaro and Matthew Sloan were named to the Los Angeles Business Journal's 2015 list of the "Most Influential Lawyers in White Collar and Cyber Crime." Mr. Marmaro and Mr. Sloan were recognized for numerous accomplishments, including Mr. Marmaro' s role as lead counsel to a major accounting firm in its confidential, largest-ever arbitration proceeding, and Mr. Sloan's defense of individuals and corporations in matters involving allegations of securities fraud and government contractor fraud, in addition to False Claims Act allegations and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Meryl Chae, leader of Skadden's Los Angeles real estate practice and co-leader of the firm's global REIT practice, was named to Real Estate Forum's 2015 list of California's "Women of Influence." Ms. Chae was recognized for her work on transactions such as AustralianSuper Pty Ltd.'s partnership with General Growth Properties, Inc. to own and operate the $5.5 billion Ala Moana Center mall in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Jeffrey Cohen Named Among California’s ‘Top Private Equity Lawyers’
Los Angeles corporate partner Jeffrey Cohen was recognized in the Daily Journal’s first-ever list of the 10 “Top Private Equity Lawyers” in California. The publication included Mr. Cohen among attorneys “who made their mark on the year,” noting his representations of Dutch LLC in its sale of a majority interest to TA Associates, and of New Cotai Holdings LLC, a joint venture between Oaktree Capital Management and Silver Point Capital.
