European corporate restructuring head Peter Newman was featured in Financier Worldwide’s Power Players: Bankruptcy & Insolvency 2026 Distinguished Advisers report. In an interview, Peter discussed his work advising companies, boards of directors, sponsors, creditors and creditor groups, acquirers and other stakeholders on large and complex restructurings, liability management exercises, business or asset sales, bankruptcies, insolvencies and associated disputes in jurisdictions around the world.
In sharing his approach to tackling challenges, Mr. Newman said, “It’s always essential to remember the broader context. Sometimes complex legal challenges are unavoidable and must be taken head on; often they are better sidestepped or finessed.”
Regarding developments on the horizon in this area, Mr. Newman said, “Liability management exercises have allowed shareholders additional runway at the risk of a more contentious subsequent restructuring if the transaction does not ultimately stabilise the business. This trend will continue, but I predict companies and stakeholders will explore a broader range of tools to avoid the cost of Chapter 11 and allow shareholders to participate in the turnaround of businesses.”
