On May 17, Skadden partners Peter Morrison, Susan Saltzstein, Charles Smith and Michael Zeidel hosted a webinar titled “Assessing Cyan, Inc. v. Beaver County Employees Retirement Fund From a Regional Perspective.” In Cyan, the Supreme Court upheld the right of state courts to hear certain class actions brought under the Securities Act of 1933. The panel examined the Court’s holding, with an emphasis on how the decision might shape the course of securities litigation in different parts of the country, including in states where Securities Act class actions have been litigated frequently, such as California, as well as other jurisdictions where the decision might have an outsized impact. The panel also offered observations on the decision from a regional and corporate law perspective.
