Michael Albrecht

Bio

Dr. Michael Albrecht advises domestic and international management and supervisory boards in connection with corporate governance, internal investigations and compliance matters. His practice also focuses on advice relating to economic and financial sanctions of the European Union.

Michael Albrecht studied law at the universities of Freiburg (Germany) and Grenoble (France). Following the completion of his doctoral thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law in Freiburg, he completed his legal preparatory service in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich and Pristina (Kosovo).

His experience includes advising, among others:

  • a supervisory board of a European financial institution in an internal investigation into certain tax-driven equity and derivative transactions;
  • a management board of a European financial institution in an internal investigation relating to the so-called “Panama Papers”;
  • a management board of a European company on board member duties relating to certain restructuring efforts;
  • a board of directors of a U.S. technology and services company on corporate governance issues after a merger with a German stock corporation;
  • a multinational oil and gas company on exportation and maintenance of high-end technologies and equipment under EU sanctions; and
  • several multinational automotive companies on compliance matters relating to EU sanctions on investments in Russia and Crimea.
