Tim Elliott
Bio
Mr. Elliott has represented major exchanges, clearinghouses, trading platforms, proprietary trading firms, brokerages, investment managers and other market participants before the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other federal and global agencies and self-regulatory organizations.
He routinely counsels clients on the implications of regulatory and legislative changes and has advised on the development of federal regulatory policy on all forms of derivatives under the Commodity Exchange Act. In addition, Mr. Elliott regularly counsels clients on the Securities Exchange Act, Dodd-Frank Act, market structure, high-frequency trading, market data, swap data reporting, cross-border oversight, regulatory audits and examinations, and general regulatory compliance.
Mr. Elliott’s prior experience developing and listing innovative new financial products at major exchanges helps him provide practical and business-oriented regulatory advice for his clients active in the exchange-listed and OTC marketplaces.
Before joining Skadden, Mr. Elliott served as general counsel of the National Futures Association. Previously, he held multiple senior leadership positions at one of the world’s largest derivatives marketplaces, most recently as managing director and chief regulatory counsel. In that role, he led the provision of regulatory advice on matters affecting all the company’s operating divisions, exchanges and clearinghouses under domestic and international regulations and across asset classes.
In previous positions, Mr. Elliott focused on new product development, new clearing and trading model assessments, market structure advocacy, cryptocurrency and blockchain analysis, and regulatory policy and legislative matters, among others.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Elliott was a member of the financial services practice of another global law firm, advising financial market participants and intermediaries on a full range of compliance issues.
