Bio

Carlo Gabriele Monegato advises clients on all aspects of EU, U.K., Italian and international competition law, including merger control proceedings, cartels, abuse of dominance and state aid matters. He has worked on numerous high-profile merger control transactions requiring international antitrust approvals around the world.

Mr. Monegato’s experience includes advising:

  • Globalstar, Inc. on its $11.6 billion acquisition by Amazon.com, Inc.
  • Intelsat S.A. on its $3.1 billion acquisition by SES S.A.
  • Netflix, Inc. on its proposed (but terminated) $82.7 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc.
  • Technip Energies N.V. on its joint venture with Airbus SE, Safran SA and Tereos to develop a large-scale sustainable aviation fuel production project in France
  • Qatar Investment Authority, as part of a consortium with The Carlyle Group Inc., on the $9 billion acquisition of BASF Coatings GmbH from BASF SE

Prior to joining Skadden, Mr. Monegato was a principal case officer at the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), where he spent five years on the mergers team. During his time at the CMA, he worked on more than 20 merger control investigations across various sectors — at both Phase 1 and Phase 2 — and led international cooperation efforts with U.S. and European agencies on multijurisdictional investigations. Mr. Monegato also served on the CMA’s Merger Intelligence Committee for over two years, reviewing hundreds of transactions across various sectors. In addition, he worked for the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition.
