Richard Youle is co-head of Skadden’s Private Equity Group. He focuses on private equity matters, including advising private equity houses and financial sponsor clients on all types of leveraged M&A and portfolio assistance, such as restructuring advice.


Mr. Youle is recognised as a leading individual in The Legal 500 UK, and is ranked in Tier 1 in Chambers UK, which quotes clients describing him as a “superb negotiator” who “ensures an excellent service.” He also was named as a 2018 Private Equity MVP by Law360.

Mr. Youle’s representations since joining Skadden include advising:

  • Hg in a number of matters, including:
    • in its £410 million sale of U.K.-based visual effects producer Foundry to Roper Technologies, a U.S.-headquartered technology company specializing in niche markets; 
    • as lead investor in the US$5.3 billion buyout of Visma, a leading provider of business software in the Nordic region. This was Europe’s largest-ever software buyout;
    • in the sale of its portfolio company JLA Limited to Cinven Limited;
    • in its sale of Ullink SAS to Itiviti AB, a portfolio company of Nordic Capital;
    • in its sale of Radius GGE, Inc. to Vistra Holdings S.à r.l.; and
    • in its sale of Raet to Visma Group;
  • Sovos Compliance, LLC, a portfolio company of HgCapital LLP, in:
    • its acquisition of TrustWeaver AB; and
    • its acquisition of Paperless;
  • Hg6 Fund and IRIS Software Group Limited in IRIS Software’s sale to Hg Saturn Fund and Intermediate Capital Fund plc;
  • funds managed by Castik Capital S.à r.l. in their acquisition of majority stakes in IPAN GmbH and Delegate; and
  • Montagu Private Equity LLP and the other shareholders of Equatex in its €354 million disposal to Computershare.

Mr. Youle’s representations prior to joining Skadden include advising:

  • a consortium comprised of ADIA, Allianz Capital Partners, Borealis Infrastructure and Munich Re in the acquisition of 100 percent of Autobahn Tank & Rast;
  • Global Infrastructure Partners in the agreement to acquire a 35 percent stake in Terminal Investment Ltd from MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company;
  • Hg in its:
    • acquisitions of Kinapse, Sovos Compliance, the Raet Group, The Foundry, Team System, Manx Telecom, JLA, Iris Software Group, e-conomic, Nair & Co, Parts Alliance and NetNames;
    • investment in Mitratech;
  • Montagu Private Equity LLP in its acquisitions of DEAS, Accurate Equity AS, Open International, University of Law, CAP and Equatex;
  • Oaktree Capital Management in its acquisition of The Serviced Apartment Company (Saco); and
  • Oyak Girisim Danismanligi in its acquisition of the Almatis Group.
