Skadden is pleased to announce that David Fish has joined the firm as a partner in the Litigation Group of its New York office. Mr. Fish brings extensive experience managing complex disputes and significant insight into the commercial and regulatory issues confronting multinational companies operating in North America.
Most recently, Mr. Fish served as the head of litigation for Sumitomo Corporation of Americas (Sumitomo), where he oversaw a broad portfolio of high-stakes matters. He played a central role in achieving a landmark, first-of-its-kind resolution of talc-related liabilities under Section 524(g) of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code for a Sumitomo subsidiary — an outcome regarded as a major development in mass tort restructuring.
At Skadden, Mr. Fish will advise Asia Pacific clients on complex cross-border disputes in the U.S., including contract, class action antitrust and mass tort matters. He will also collaborate closely with the firm’s M&A and restructuring practices, drawing on his prior transactional and bankruptcy experience at Sumitomo.
“David’s arrival strengthens our ability to support clients in navigating their most sophisticated disputes,” said Ryan Junck, Skadden’s global co-head of litigation. “His cross-border experience and record of guiding companies through sensitive and high-exposure matters will be of great value to our global client base.”
“David has consistently supported clients across a wide range of industries and matters,” added Kenji Taneda, corporate partner and head of Skadden’s Tokyo office. “His steady judgment and deep experience with both corporate transactions and complex disputes will enhance the services we provide to clients in Japan and throughout the region.”
“I am honored to join Skadden after working alongside the firm for many years at Sumitomo,” said Mr. Fish. “Skadden’s global platform and integrated approach have delivered precedent-setting results and provide a powerful foundation for supporting clients in overcoming their most challenging situations and achieving their highest priorities.”
Mr. Fish is a graduate of Georgetown Law and holds a B.A. from Hunter College. He began his legal career as a litigation attorney at another global law firm and clerked for a federal judge in the Eastern District of New York.
