On July 1, 2024, registration thresholds under the city of Chicago’s lobbying law take effect. Under the law, individuals will need to register for city lobbying communications if they:

  • are compensated or spend $1,250 or more, combined, for lobbying in a calendar quarter; or
  • spend more than 20 hours on lobbying in a calendar quarter

Time spent preparing for lobbying communications will not count toward these thresholds.

Under current law — and until July 1 — Chicago does not have such thresholds for lobbying registration.
