Professional Development

Skadden is committed to the professional development of our attorneys throughout their careers at the firm. Whether they are joining us fresh out of law school or after years of experience, we provide the tools needed to be successful at the firm and beyond.

Training & Support

Skadden’s commitment to the professional development of our attorneys is realized by enhancing and refining skills through challenging work experiences and formal learning opportunities. Our core curriculum, which is provided at all experience levels, incorporates the firm's competencies; technical, work management and people skills; and firm citizenship and core values. We believe success is achieved by exposing attorneys to learning opportunities that increase substantive knowledge and develop professional skills needed to provide superior client service. In addition, our various practice groups each assign one or more Attorney Development Partners to ensure seamless integration into the group, equitable distribution of work and timely development-related programming.

Mentoring & Feedback

The goal of Skadden’s formal mentor program is to teach new associates how to be “Skadden attorneys” by fostering long-term mentoring relationships between partners and junior associates for a minimum of three years. This program, along with our formalized shadowing program, further supports the development of our attorneys.

Compensation & Benefits

We pride ourselves on the support we offer our lawyers as they determine the best paths for their success, both personally and professionally. We provide a wide range of benefits, perks and resources that allow them to integrate their work and their lives according to their own personal needs and preferences. Many of these programs are innovative, first-of-their-kind initiatives that inspire other firms to follow our lead.

Work/Life Integration

Attorney and professional staff well-being is a firm priority. Skadden is committed to creating a culture and tone that supports overall well-being. Our Live Well/Work Well platform offers robust resources and training that focuses on four spheres: emotional, financial, physical and social. In addition, we are a signatory to the ABA Well-Being Pledge highlighting our dedication to improving well-being not only within the firm but across the legal industry.
